Join us for an evening of music that covers 60 years of David Crosby's career from Crosby Stills Nash to his last album recorded in 2022.
11 Musicians come together to share their love for this man, and his music.
Ask most people if they’ve heard of David Crosby, chances are they will rightly recall the folk-rock supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash. Asked to list some of Crosby's songs, you'll get “Our House” (composed by Graham Nash), or perhaps “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” (Stephen Stills), or even “Woodstock” (Joni Mitchell). It is rare that the casual listener will remember a David Crosby composition. So, what is it about David Crosby that led him to be twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It certainly wasn’t his songwriting — at least from the early years. And, although he was an accomplished guitar player, it wasn’t his ability on the instrument that made him a standout. As co-founder of The Byrds as well as CSN, it was David Crosby’s voice, still just as smooth and strong in his ‘80s, that was perhaps his greatest contribution to the success of these and other bands.
More than just the sound that came out of his mouth. Crosby’s “voice” encompasses many aspects of the man and his talent. First, his keen sense of harmony and his ability to vocally enhance the music of others made him a first-choice guest artist on countless recordings. Many are convinced that without his vocal harmonies, CSN might never have come to full fruition. But even more significant, Crosby’s “voice” included his deeply philosophical worldview coupled with a self-professed arrogance that manifested itself in his often cryptic songwriting. It is this voice that has intrigued the members of “Shadow Captain” and compelled them to pay tribute to the man, his music, and his life.
